About Still Waters

Our History at Still Waters Baptist

Still Waters Baptist Church began as a lakeside worship service on the shores of Dr. and  Mrs. Howard Giddens’ home. The first service was held at 8:30 am on June 7, 1987, with 22 people present. Rev. Danny Hedgepath, pastor of First Baptist, Batesburg conducted the service. Rev. Barry Epps, the current pastor at Still Waters Baptist Church, began the pastorate on  April 7, 2013.  During his tenure, Still Waters Baptist Church members voted to build and complete a fellowship hall. This expansion was added in three phases. Under Rev. Epps’s leadership, the missions’ work and upgrades to the building have been a major focus. New carpet, banners, new windows, registry boards, artwork (pottery and paintings) have been added to the sanctuary. The WMU and Men’s Ministry have been recognized with Triple A status the last three years through the state association for their missions’ focus.  Fellowship opportunities were added such as a Tractor Show, Old Timey Day, Game Night, Children’s Mission Day, and Pastor’s Night Out. Under Rev. Epps’s leadership, we actively support missionaries such as Ann and David Boyter – Mexico, Steve DuVall- Africa, and the Tandon’s – Africa. Veteran’s Day Sunday has become an outreach to the community and Still Waters Baptist Church hosted their first Ladies Conference with National Author and Speaker Kathy Howard as the special guest.  Through grants from the Ridge Association, Still Waters Baptist Church updated their library in 2020 and became a presence on social media including Facebook during the Covid pandemic.  During the pandemic, members of Still Waters Baptist Church presented weekly broadcasts reading children’s books on Facebook, helping bridge the gap between generations. We took our weekly Sunday service live on Facebook and we developed many followers.  During Children’s Mission Day in 2021, a blessing box was added to the property for people in need. A prayer box was built and added to the sanctuary during the National Day of Prayer in 2021.  In 2022, Still Waters Baptist received a grant from the SC Baptist Foundation to host the BiG Event (Believe in God) and BiGGer Event (2023) designed to encourage discipleship among young people of Generation Z. In 2023, stained glass windows were added to the sanctuary and in 2024, an Essex (designed by Steinway) baby grand piano was purchased for the sanctuary. Also in 2024, Shirley Long, a member artist, painted a scene depicting the Jordan River behind the baptistry.  In 2025, Still Waters Baptist Church has taken the lead to develop the Come to the Cross Crusade for the Batesburg-Leesville-Saluda communities with Tyler Blue as the Evangelist. Still Waters Baptist Church began as a missions’ church and 33 years later we have become even stronger in our missions’ outreach. Thank you to those that have been a part of the history and legacy we continue to build at Still Waters Baptist Church in Leesville, SC.

Eddie Hallman
Music Director

The Lord has given me many opportunities to serve in churches as a ministry staff member where I specialized reaching out to all ages through programs and events that enhanced evangelism and commitment to Christ and the church. I am very fortunate to be at Still Waters Baptist church as their music director. It is my desire for music to be a wonderful blessing every Sunday morning including the hymns and musicals. Music is an inspiration for worship. We all join to joyfully sing for the Glory of God! I urge everyone to feel free to join us in the choir or in any other music special that could be a part of our worship experience.

Daryl & Sarah Anderson
Youth & Children's Directors

We are Sarah and Daryl Anderson, aged 32 with one little boy, Jessie. We both spent most of our lives growing up in Aiken, SC. As kids, we had the opportunity to grow up in a church and learn about Jesus and what He has done for us. Our main goal in the children’s program at Still Waters Baptist Church is to help these young kids and youth know all about the Bible, and how following Jesus will change their lives forever.  As Christians, our focus should be on leading people to Christ. Our goal with the young people is exactly that, because they are the future of the church.

If you’d like more information about us or our activities here at Still Waters, give us a call at 803-646-1189 or come visit us at the church on Sunday mornings at 9 am.
